Baeveldt Shunt

The Baerveldt shunt is the latest vision saving procedure available at Melbourne EyeVet for glaucoma.
A Baerveldt shunt is positioned onto the surface of the eyeball with the wings of the implant under the muscles attached to the eyeball.  The tube of the shunt is placed into the front chamber of the eye and acts as a new drain pathway for fluid to leave the eye.

An extremely intense medication and monitoring regime is essential to increase the chance of a successful outcome.

We feel this procedure shows more promising longterm results than the original laser procedure offered for glaucoma patients.
