Veterinary Students

Melbourne EyeVet is happy to provide a warm and friendly learning environment for veterinary students wishing to learn more about ophthalmology. MEV is a busy specialist practice that treats exclusively ophthalmology cases in all species. Most of our patients are dogs and cats, however we also see many horses and rabbits. Dr O’Reilly consults at Melbourne Zoo and in addition we see a small number of wildlife cases and birds.

Due to the nature of the work performed at MEV, a high level of expertise is required by our staff. For this reason, students visiting MEV will gain minimal practical experience compared to a general practice and will be mainly observing and learning. However we believe that even after one week at MEV, students will develop a sound base of knowledge about examination of and diseases of animal eyes.

Veterinary students can email an application which should include their full name, university, current year and requested dates. Please also include an emergency contact name and phone number. There is a form attached below with more information. We generally take one student at a time but have the capacity to have more.
